Issue
I'm on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Server. I'm new to linux so decided to install Gnome.
sudo apt-get install xorg gnome-core gnome-system-tools gnome-app-install
I still want to boot to command prompt.. So I tried to update the grub file.
I followed all the steps: sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
edit the grub see below: and after i did: sudo update-grub after I rebooted, but still continue to boot to the gui...
Please help!

I think you want
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="text"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
and
sudo systemctl enable multi-user.target --force
sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target
